Woodfibre LNG is committed to building a project that is right for Squamish and right for BC. This includes listening to the community and local First Nations and acting on their priorities.
From 2013 through the Fall of 2016, Woodfibre LNG held more than 338 community meetings, hosted two business information sessions and opened a Community Office in Squamish.We also participated in eight open houses and one community roundtable discussion as part of the environmental assessment process. These meetings were attended by more than 1100 people.Woodfibre LNG has also tried some new approaches to connecting with the community; we’ve hosted two telephone town halls (765 people participated), and in the Spring of 2015, we launched our question and answer website, askwoodfibrelng.ca, where you can find answers to your questions anytime.
Consultation has also led to meaningful changes to the Woodfibre LNG Project. The Woodfibre LNG processing facility will be powered by electricity from BC Hydro instead of natural gas, which will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by about 80%, and make Woodfibre LNG one of the cleanest LNG facilities in the world. In addition, the Woodfibre LNG processing facility will be cooled by air cooling (instead of seawater cooling) as a result of our environmental agreement with the Squamish Nation. The agreement comes from Squamish Nation’s independent assessment of the project; a process that began in May 2013 when Woodfibre LNG Limited first applied to undergo a Squamish Nation environmental review. The Squamish Nation Environmental Assessment Agreement underscores Woodfibre LNG Limited’s belief that by working together with First Nations, we can build a better project; one that brings responsible economic opportunity to the region, and protects traditional land, water and heritage resources.
Community Sponsorship Program
Woodfibre LNG is proud to be supporting some of the charities and community groups that play an important role in contributing to a vibrant and growing Squamish. As part of this, we have established a Community Sponsorship Program, with a specific focus on organizations that are working in areas of education, youth sport, and environmental initiatives.
Grants from Woodfibre LNG will be awarded semi-annually, and determined through a formalized application process. In order to support as many groups as possible, we have created funding criteria to help organizations determine their eligibility.
To receive a grant, the group/individual must be based in Squamish and/or must deliver programs in the community. The following criteria will also be considered:
- The group/individual is focused on youth with an emphasis on education or sport programming;
- The group/individual is focused on environmental initiatives.
Community Sponsorship grants will be distributed and announced semi-annually.
Note: The maximum investment our Community Sponsorship Committee will consider for each individual grant is $5,000.
Groups will be considered ineligible for the Community Sponsorship Program if they are:
- Third party fundraisers;
- Seeking goodwill advertising, travel expenses, retroactive requests, seminars;
- Not located or based in Squamish.
To apply for funding, please fill out our Community Sponsorship Application Form. Applications will be reviewed by a Community Sponsorship Committee, which will consist of Woodfibre LNG employees. Only successful applicants will be contacted.
Thank you for your interest in our Community Sponsorship Program. If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or visit our community office at 38134 Cleveland Avenue, Squamish.
